ReactionJarell Quansah: It's hard to reflect on my goal because I'm just gutted

The defender scored his first Premier League goal during the game on Monday night to put the Reds 3-1 ahead early in the second half at Villa Park.

But the hosts fought back to salvage something from the Premier League affair courtesy of a late double from substitute Jhon Duran.

Offering his reaction, Quansah told Liverpoolfc.com: "I'm definitely gutted, just disappointed really.

"I think we were in complete control of the game the majority of the way through and once they get a goal, they get the taste for it. That's ultimately what today was."

After an early Emiliano Martinez own goal was cancelled out by Youri Tielemans, Cody Gakpo put Liverpool ahead again before Quansah established a two-goal cushion within three minutes of the restart by rising highest to meet Harvey Elliott's free-kick.

Assessing his header, Quansah continued: "I just saw Virg [van Dijk] block the man to obviously keep me onside and it was just about getting good contact on it. I didn't really see it, to be honest, I was probably twisted the other way. But when I saw it go in, I was buzzing.

"I probably can't reflect on that too much today because I'm just gutted we conceded three and it's definitely something to work on."

Quansah kept his place in the starting XI for the clash with Unai Emery's men to make his 32nd appearance of the season in all competitions.

It's a campaign the centre-half will never forget, given the milestones reached and progress made.

"I've learnt so much, it's been so valuable to my career, to be honest," the 21-year-old said. "I can't thank the gaffer enough for trusting me in these games.

"I've played against some of the best players in the world and played alongside some of the best players in the world. Hopefully that continues and I just keep pushing on and getting better and better."

Liverpool will complete their 2023-24 fixture list at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, bringing an end to Jürgen Klopp's glorious reign at the club.

Quansah finished: "I'm sure Anfield will be buzzing. Hopefully we can get a win for him.

"It will probably be an emotional day because of what he's done for the club and what he's done for the fans, especially for the players as well, especially for myself and some of the younger lads [with] the opportunities he's given us. I think it's going to be a good day hopefully."
