NewsInterview: Olivia Smith on goalscoring, settling in and trip to Tottenham Hotspur

The forward got on the scoresheet in spectacular fashion during the Barclays Women's Super League 1-1 draw away at West Ham United.

That excellent curler has been nominated for WSL Goal of the Month in September, and the summer arrival from Sporting CP hopes it's the first of many in a red shirt.

She told Liverpoolfc.com: "I was super-excited. It was a great moment for me just to get that account started early. Definitely looking towards more for the season.

"Definitely a nice feeling [for it to be nominated]. I think that kind of just goes to show who I am just as a creative player.

"I'm always looking to take players on and [a] quick cutback, quick release is something that I've been working on and something that I'm pretty good at. It's great to have that as my first goal."

The Canadian is growing more comfortable within Matt Beard's squad with each passing week after missing a fair chunk of pre-season when participating at the U20 Women's World Cup.

"I definitely think it was frustrating having to miss almost a month, if not a month," the No.11 said. "But I feel like I'm settling in pretty well with the girls.

"Matt and the staff have been amazing [at] reintegrating me back into the squad as well. It's only up from here and there's still a lot of learning to get through but we still have time."

After beginning the league season with a pair of draws, Smith is hoping to register her first victory as a Liverpool player on Sunday.

The Reds return to the capital and will meet Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road in a 2.15pm BST kick-off.

Looking ahead to the game, Smith analysed: "Obviously all the teams in this league are amazing and I think we just have to go in with a proper mindset in that we haven't lost a game yet, and that's the most important thing.

"We're still in the running to try to place as a top-three team. Again, they [Tottenham] are strong but when we have a good day, we can win."

Once Sunday's match is completed, Liverpool can begin turning their attention and excitement towards the first of their three WSL fixtures at Anfield in 2024-25.

Beard's side take on Manchester City in L4 next weekend, with the occasion set to be a special one for Smith and her family.

She said: "I'm definitely super-excited. I have my mum, my dad and my sister coming in to support.

"It'll be my first time in Anfield ever, so I'm definitely looking forward to that experience and hopefully our fans are looking forward to it as well."
