Round-upInternationals: Jones scores on England debut, Kelleher saves crucial penalty
Reds midfielder Jones was selected to start for the first time for his country by Lee Carsley and helped the Three Lions to a 3-0 victory over Greece in Athens.
He netted his nation's third effort of the UEFA Nations League match thanks to an audacious flick inside the area to add to an Ollie Watkins strike and an own goal from Odysseas Vlachodimos.
On making on an impression on his debut, Jones said: "I tried, I tried! The lads around helped as well. I just went out there and I was playing free and I had a smile on my face. I was enjoying it and I'm happy I came away with a goal as well."
He added: "When you've got a team like ours I can go high and I can come low and I can get on the ball and I can play. There's lads there to help and there's also lads who said I can go [forward] as well. Jude [Bellingham] stayed back, so I saw I had a chance to go and lucky enough I scored."
Kostas Tsimikas completed 56 minutes of the contest in opposition for Greece, while Jarell Quansah was an unused substitute for England following his late promotion from the U21s squad.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made a decisive intervention for the Republic of Ireland in Dublin, saving a penalty in the 77th minute to help his country to a 1-0 win over Finland after Evan Ferguson's strike in the opening half.
On the penalty save and match, Kelleher reflected: "Before he stepped up I just looked at the run-up and kind of went on instinct and thankfully I went the right way.
"I think maybe in the first half we rode our luck at times. [There was] two off the post and good defending and some good blocks, which you have to do at times. Thankfully we scored a great goal and then I think we just defended. Other than the penalty there weren't many chances, so there's positives to take from it."
Ibrahima Konate also helped keep a clean sheet, as the centre-back featured for France in their 0-0 draw with Israel in Paris.
Overnight, Alexis Mac Allister was substituted midway through the second half of Argentina's 2-1 loss away to Paraguay in the South American section of World Cup qualification.
