NewsInternationals: Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz score in World Cup qualifiers
Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz scored in the latest round of South American World Cup qualifiers.
Liverpool midfielder Mac Allister was on target as Argentina beat Brazil 4-1 to celebrate their qualification for next year’s tournament in style.
Mac Allister’s goal put the holders 3-1 up before half-time and the 26-year-old was later substituted with around 15 minutes remaining.
Argentina’s spot at the World Cup had been confirmed before kick-off in Buenos Aires by virtue of an earlier goalless draw between Uruguay and Bolivia. Darwin Nunez played the second half of that match in El Alto.
Meanwhile, Diaz put Colombia ahead inside the opening minute of their meeting with Paraguay and the forward then assisted his team’s second goal of the evening.
However, Paraguay responded and the game in Barranquilla finished 2-2.
