NewsInjury update: Alexander-Arnold, Diaz, Matip, Robertson and more

The Liverpool trio are set for spells on the sidelines with issues picked up during the 3-2 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

Diaz was forced off with a knee injury before half-time and is likely to be out for ‘six to eight’ weeks, while Alexander-Arnold is expected to miss a shorter period having been withdrawn due to an ankle problem at the break.

Matip also required a scan following the encounter at Emirates Stadium and is unavailable.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Champions League clash with Rangers, the manager said: “Of course, it was, let me say it like this, after the game in the dressing room it was already clear this will be the case.

“I thought we were maybe hopefully a little bit lucky with Trent because the ankle didn’t look good, to be honest. Lucho, what is it, six to eight [weeks] or whatever? We will see how long.

“Lucho looks like a quick healer but anyway we have obviously to be careful with that. [It] could have been worse as well, the way he moved after the game.

“And actually, Joel just felt a little bit, but that’s what you do nowadays to make a scan, and then he was out as well.

“Yes, that is not great, but it is the situation and we have to deal with it and we will.”

On the timeframe for Alexander-Arnold, he added: “It is always difficult to say. Shorter than a month; two weeks I heard but we have to see if that’s right.

“That is the information I got, I am not sure if I am allowed to say this, to be honest! Because I thought it is longer when I saw him after the game. But I take the two weeks easily. We will see.”

Andy Robertson is set to be part of the squad for Wednesday’s Group A meeting with Rangers at Ibrox, but the tie against the Scottish Premiership side comes too soon for Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“They only trained now a couple of days, we cannot now just put them in just because the others are out,” added Klopp of the players nearing a return.

“Robbo is in the squad for tomorrow; Curtis not, Ox not, Naby not. That’s it. It’s important the boys [are] coming back but it is not that you are back, train twice with the team and then here we go. It’s not like this.”
