Press conferenceInjury news: Updates on Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic
The Liverpool midfielders have missed the majority of this season due to injury, with Thiago sustaining a muscle issue while making his first appearance of the campaign at Arsenal on February 4 and Bajcetic having not played since September.
On whether there is a timescale in place for Thiago’s return and if the No.6 will feature again in 2023-24, Klopp said on Tuesday: “Yeah, there’s no timescale. I don’t know, to be honest. It’s a couple of things [that] he has to do now from a medical point of view and then I don’t know if that will then mean that he can play again [this season].
“That’s not a short-term thing, that’s why I’m not really in the subject. It’s not that he might be in training in two weeks or stuff like this, so that’s why I’m not 100 per cent in it. I cannot say more about it, to be honest.”
And on Bajcetic, the manager stated: “He’s obviously gaining fitness now... he didn’t get a green light yet for us for the team training.
“He’s pain-free, completely pain-free, which is obviously the most important thing. All checks we made, like scans again, bone looks good, that’s all fine and he’s just doing the stuff he’s doing.
“Now we have to make sure that in the moment when we use him in normal training... because the difficulty of football, it’s such a complex sport for the body, not only that you have to turn yourself because somebody turns you and jumps into you, you have to be ready for all these kind of things.
“You have to do it at high speed, slow down in a split-second and go again, these kind of things. We try as much as we can to do these [things] in rehab sessions but in the end you cannot put in 10 other players, or more, to recreate a proper game situation.
“That’s where we are. But for me, he looks good but how good, I get told, I cannot decide that. Nobody told me he will train this afternoon... nobody told me that he will be back anywhere soon.”
