Interview'I'm very happy and proud to be here' - Cornelia Kapocs on signing for LFC Women
The forward today became the Reds’ second new signing ahead of 2024-25, following the arrival of Olivia Smith earlier this summer.
Kapocs, a Sweden youth international, joins from Linkoping in her homeland, where she experienced playing in the Women’s Champions League while scoring 23 goals in 39 Damallsvenskan matches across 2023 and 2024.
The 24-year-old is hugely excited to be taking the next step in her career in the Barclays Women’s Super League and, shortly after putting pen to paper, sat down with Liverpoolfc.com at the AXA Melwood Training Centre.
See our interview with the Reds’ new No.7 below.
On signing for Liverpool…
I’m very happy and very proud to be here. I have been watching some games and I really feel like I will fit into this kind of play. I like the way the team plays and I also feel that I can grow and develop here as a player and as a person, so this is the right place to take the next step in my career.
On meeting Beard for the first time…
[I was] very impressed and I got a good feeling directly. I feel he can help me to take this next step, so I’m very excited to work with him.
On taking on a new challenge in the WSL being a proud moment...
Definitely. It has been a goal for me to play in the WSL and to play for such a big club as Liverpool I am very proud. I’m really looking forward to meeting the fans and I can’t wait to get started and play in front of them. What the team did last season was amazing and I’m very happy to join this journey.
On being made to feel at home straight away thanks to the presence of fellow Scandinavians Sophie Roman Haug and Sofie Lundgaard…
They have helped me and it will be easier for me to talk to them about it if there’s something I need and things like that, so it’s nice.
On her first impressions of the AXA Melwood Training Centre…
It’s amazing! To have this as our home every day is also a dream. It’s nothing I’ve been used to before, so I can’t wait to go out there on the pitch and train and enjoy it.
On netting 18 goals last season and hoping to bring her qualities to the Reds…
I like to score goals and I like to create chances for my teammates, either by combining or a one-v-one situation. I really took the next step in my career last season and I feel like I have grown a lot also by playing in the Champions League and that was good for me to do that.
On how much she is looking forward to living in the city…
I’m really looking forward to it, I got a good feeling the first time I was here and it’s a really nice city. Last time I was in the city I had dinner with Sofie, which was really nice. I want to go to coffee shops and see the city.
On being aware of how big the club is in Scandinavia and worldwide...
It’s really big and it’s also really big for me to sign for such a big club. I’m really proud to be here – it’s been a dream since I was younger.
