LFC Women'I'm gutted for the fans - we're always grateful for their support'
The Reds travelled to face the Blues at Kingsmeadow for a 12.30pm GMT kick-off in Barclays Women's Super League action.
The contest, though, was abandoned after six minutes with match officials deeming the pitch unplayable due to inclement weather.
"I don't know why it took six [or] seven minutes for us to find out it was frozen," Beard told BBC Sport post-match.
"It was frozen this morning [and] it was frozen in the warm-up. You can clearly see down this side [and] in the penalty box.
"I'm just gutted for our fans, because they have set off at five o'clock this morning to come down when it could have been postponed at 9.30am because the pitch wasn't safe.
"You look at the temperature, it wasn't going to get above zero today. It's frustrating all round - but it shouldn't have been played in the first place.
"We're always grateful for their support, and we wish them a safe journey back up."
A number of Reds fans had made the lengthy trip from Merseyside to London, with free travel provided for supporters to attend the game.
Beard added: "At the end of the day the game shouldn't have been played. They've eventually made the right decision and that's that.
"It should have been called off this morning at 9.30am when the pitch inspection [said it] wasn't playable.
"They spoke about putting the game back to 2pm and they still run with it at 12.30pm. I was a bit surprised when I got that phone call to say it's 12.30pm, not 2pm."
