Reaction'I proved I wasn't lucky!' - Alexis Mac Allister on another stunning goal
The Reds returned to the Premier League summit courtesy of a 3-1 home victory on Thursday night, with Darwin Nunez putting them in front early in the first half.
An unfortunate Conor Bradley own goal later got the Blades back on terms but Mac Allister walloped his team ahead again via a blistering finish into the top corner at the Kop end.
Cody Gakpo ensured the three points with a clinical header in the last minute as Jürgen Klopp’s men responded to the previous evening’s successes for Arsenal and Manchester City.
Speaking to TNT Sports post-match, Mac Allister was asked if his effort against United bettered his one earlier in the season versus Fulham.
“I don’t know… we were discussing that! Both of them were very good,” replied the Argentinian.
“The most important thing is it helped to win the game and that’s so important. Against Fulham they told me it was lucky, so I had to prove them wrong!”
Mac Allister added of Gakpo’s impact from the bench: “I’m really happy for this guy, he has been working very, very hard.
“Today he got his goal and I’m very glad because he’s one of these guys that works very hard and he is always positive and a good leader for the group. So I’m very happy for him and of course for the team.”
Liverpool’s challenge for the Premier League title will continue with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
It’s a return to the scene of the Reds’ Emirates FA Cup exit last month, when a last-minute goal gave the home side a 4-3 result.
Mac Allister said: “I don’t know if it’s revenge but for sure it will be an important game for us because if we want to win something then we have to win every game. And that’s the aim.”
