Copa AmericaHow Darwin Nunez could achieve Uruguay scoring history
By Chris Shaw
The Liverpool forward has scored in each of his last seven appearances for his country, racking up 10 goals during that run, which began in October.
The past two strikes have come as Marcelo Bielsa’s team have claimed back-to-back victories at the Copa America, beating Panama 3-1 and Bolivia 5-0.
Nunez’s streak of netting in seven consecutive outings for Uruguay has equalled the previous best for the men’s side – set by Hector Scarone almost a century ago.
A goal when La Celeste meet the USA in a 2am BST kick-off on Tuesday in Kansas City would see the Reds man claim the record outright.
Uruguay require just a point from the game to guarantee qualification to the quarter-finals and top spot in Group C.
