NewsHistoric LFC Women trophies take pride of place at AXA Melwood Training Centre
Replicas of the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship honours are now proudly on display in the trophy cabinet, adding the finishing touches to the day-to-day base of the team.
The Reds relocated to the elite training facility at the start of the 2023-24 season in a new chapter of LFC history, with the move already showing positive results on the pitch.
Having the trophies on display demonstrates the success of the club since being a founding member of the Women’s Super League back when it started in 2011.
Both honours were won under current boss Matt Beard, captained by Gemma Bonner and Niamh Fahey respectively.
Bonner, LFC Women’s record appearance holder in the WSL era, led Liverpool to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014, while Fahey skippered the squad that won the Championship in 2021-22.
Bonner said: “It’s extremely special to have them here and it makes you feel proud to see what we have achieved for this club. It also shows the squad and younger players what we’re aiming for.”
Fahey added: “Like Melwood, these trophies are part of our history and this is our home – it’s only right we have them here on display. It helps to show off our success as a club and show us all what we’re striving for more of in the future.”
The Reds host Leicester City in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup this afternoon, with kick-off at Prenton Park set for 12pm GMT.
Tickets for the game can be purchased here, along with remaining WSL matches against West Ham United, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.
