ReactionGemma Bonner's new LFC record: 'It's an achievement I'm extremely proud of'

The Reds legend moved clear of Ashley Hodson’s tally and marked her 135th outing for the club with an excellent goal in the Continental League Cup contest.

LFC will be making a special presentation to Bonner to celebrate her feat in the next home game at Prenton Park when Brighton & Hove Albion visit in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday November 26.

On a record-breaking 135th appearance for LFC Women…

It’s an achievement I’m extremely proud of. Obviously every time I put on the red shirt it’s a proud moment because I’ve been a supporter of this club from a young girl. I love being back at this club, I’ve got so many great memories here and hopefully there’s more to come.

On getting on the scoresheet…

It was nice to get the goal. I’ve been saying to Pottsy [goalkeeping coach Joe Potts]: put me in the right areas and I’ll score! So thankfully I got one tonight.

On the narrow loss to City…

I thought it was quite an open game, there was a lot of turnovers and it got very transitional towards the end, but there was a lot of changes tonight from both teams so mistakes are always going to happen, but I feel we can definitely take a lot of positives from this game.

We were disappointed with the manner in which we conceded the goals but we played some really good stuff. It was great to see Mia [Enderby] and Tash [Natasha Flint] get on the scoresheet, so that is positives we can take to build on.

On the encouraging display of 19-year-old Lucy Parry at right-back…

Pazza is still young but I thought she did fantastic tonight up against Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly and then Mary Fowler when Kelly moved to the opposite side. It was a good test for her and she stood up really well to that. It’s great for her to be exposed to these type of games, and I thought everyone put in a huge shift out there.

On Leanne Kiernan, who came off the bench to make her return to action…

It’s been an incredibly tough 15 months or so for Leanne and you could see we were all delighted for her at the end. We see her every single morning, she’s first in the gym and is always so positive and doing as much as she can to get back on the pitch, so to see her back in training has given everyone a lift and we were delighted to see her back with us on the pitch tonight.

On Sunday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur…

We are doing well in the WSL so far, it’s another tough test away at Spurs but I know we will have an incredible support with us again. We have to prepare and take the positives from this game, but I think we should go into Sunday with a lot of confidence. We are really starting to come together and get some consistency so we will look to carry that on this Sunday.
