ReactionGemma Bonner: We're gutted but we've got to use this disappointment
The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat by neighbours Everton in Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League encounter at Goodison Park.
Matt Beard’s team were denied on multiple occasions by Blues goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan, while the hosts’ winner came from a penalty – scored by Katja Snoeijs – that was awarded despite Fuka Nagano’s infringement taking place outside the area.
“Everyone is gutted, of course we had the decision go against us but also there’s a lot of things within the game that we can do better,” Bonner told Sky Sports post-match.
“We know we’ve got so much quality within the squad and it’s about trying to bring that to the forefront, and ultimately, finishing the chances is going to help us do that.”
On Liverpool not converting their opportunities in games more regularly so far this season, Bonner said: “I think we’ve been saying that for a few games that we’ve had this year.
“We’re creating the chances but it’s just not going in for us. We know we’ve got the quality of goals within the team, we tried to change it up in the second half. I’m sure once we get that goal, the others will come.
“I thought we did a lot of positive things today and we started well, we got after them. We had a lot of chances but ultimately at the top level you’ve got to put the chances away and make them count.
“So of course we’re frustrated, disappointed. But we’ve still got a few big games coming up before the Christmas period. It’s up to us to make sure we keep working hard in training and make sure the next result is the right one.”
