Bonner was the victim of an accidental clash of heads during the Barclays Women’s Super League match against Manchester United Women, after leaping to make a defensive clearance in her own box during the second half at Leigh Sports Village.
LFC Women club doctor Amelia Woodhouse said: “Gemma lost consciousness temporarily and suffered a facial laceration during the incident.
“After treatment she was able to walk off the pitch with the assistance of medical staff and taken into the medical room at Leigh for further assessment.
“She was attended to by the doctor and received a number of stitches around her lip for the laceration. She is now following concussion protocols under the supervision of the club medical team.”
Everyone at LFC Women would also like to pass on their thanks to the medical staff at Manchester United Women for their assistance during the incident on Sunday.
