Gallery: Ron Yeats' remarkable Liverpool career in photos
Former centre-back Yeats made 454 appearances for the Reds and was a cornerstone of Bill Shankly’s first great team, serving as club captain for the majority of his decade of playing service at Anfield.
‘Rowdy’ helped clinch the Second Division title in his first campaign in 1961-62, playing a key role for Shankly’s charges in defence to bring Liverpool back to the forefront of English football.
With Yeats leading the way, the Reds would go on to lift the First Division title in 1963-64 and again in 1965-66, while in between those successes he became the first Liverpool captain to lift the FA Cup in 1965.
Yeats later served the club in an off-field capacity as a chief scout, a position he was appointed to in 1986 and held for 20 years before his retirement.
