PreviewFour Reds aiming for glory in Euros and Copa America finals
At Euro 2024, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are into the showpiece with England after the Three Lions beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the last four in midweek.
The Dutch took an early lead through Xavi Simons’ fierce effort in Dortmund on Wednesday night, but Harry Kane soon levelled with a penalty kick and Ollie Watkins came off the bench to dispatch a clinical winner in the last minute.
Alexander-Arnold has made four appearances at the tournament so far and converted the decisive penalty in the quarter-final shootout with Switzerland, while Gomez has yet to feature.
England’s fellow finalists are Spain, who also came from a goal behind to beat France 2-1 in the other semi-final, with Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo the scorers.
La Roja are set to contest their third Euros final in the last five editions, having lifted the trophy in 2008 and successfully defended it in 2012.
The final will be played in Berlin on Sunday and kick-off is 8pm BST.
The Reds are guaranteed a champion in the Copa America, meanwhile, with Alexis Mac Allister’s Argentina facing Luis Diaz’s Colombia in the showpiece.
Both players have been key figures in their nations’ progress in the USA, with holders Argentina victorious in all five of their games so far.
Lionel Scaloni’s side – who have conceded just once in the competition to date – clinched their spot in the final by defeating Canada 2-0 in midweek.
Diaz has started every match and scored twice for Colombia, who set up the meeting with Argentina courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Uruguay in the semi-finals.
Kick-off in the Copa America final is 1am BST on Monday morning, at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
