ClubForever Reds tee off for charitable golf tournament
Forever Reds, the club’s official former player association, hosted a ticketed event for fans to play a very special round of golf with a former LFC player in their team.
A dozen former players – Robbie Fowler, Jason McAteer, Vladimir Smicer, Stephen Warnock, Roy Evans, Jim Beglin, Alan Hansen, Patrik Berger, Alan Kennedy, Phil Neal, David Fairclough and Forever Reds chair John Aldridge – took part in the four-ball tournament.
After a glorious day competing on the greens, all teams were invited to end the day with a champagne drinks reception, former player Q&A and dinner in the clubhouse, where prizes were given to the winning teams.
The winning team on the day featured Fowler.
Aldridge said: “It’s been a fantastic day for all involved, supporting Forever Reds and raising vital funds for our beneficiaries.
“Football has changed a lot in my lifetime and these vital funds help players who need extra help in their later years. It shows you never lose the connection to this fantastic club and how, together, we can do great things for each other and those in need.”
The creation of Forever Reds has been driven by the club’s desire to ensure former players always feel part of the LFC family – providing support, involving them in important work in the local community and keeping them informed of new developments.
They raise money to pay for the care and medical treatment of those former players who may need support. They also make donations to causes close to the hearts via LFC Foundation, such as the recent £15,000 raised at their Christmas Lunch to the British Red Cross appeal, helping those affected by the crisis in Ukraine.
Jonathan Bamber, senior vice-president, legal and football administration, said: “Our former players will always be an important part of the club. We’re delighted to support our former players with the first Forever Reds golf tournament.
"The event was a huge success and we look forward to more in the future. Thank you to everyone involved to make this a successful event.”
