Forever Reds – the club’s official former players association – raised an impressive £37,000 at a recent charity round of golf, taking its total money raised this season to £100,000 to go towards former players and local charities.

Teeing off at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, the Forever Reds Charity Golf Day was a ticketed event for fans to play a very special round of golf with a former Liverpool player in their team.

Chair of Forever Reds John Aldridge was joined by Dean Saunders, Bruce Grobbelaar, Gary McAllister, Jay Spearing, Neil Mellor, Jerzy Dudek, Jim Beglin, Jason McAteer, David Fairclough, Sammy Lee, John Barnes and Phil Thompson.

After a glorious day competing on the greens, all teams were invited to end the occasion with an evening reception auction, former player Q&A and dinner in the clubhouse, where prizes were given to the winning teams.

Fifteen teams competed in the four-ball, with the winners on the day featuring Spearing.

“We’ve had a great day on the greens in support of Forever Reds,” said Aldridge. “Thank you to everyone involved to help raise vital funds for former players in need and local charities.

“This event and the sell-out Christmas lunch has helped to raise over £100,000 for Forever Reds this season.

“It’s incredible how the Reds family come together to show their support. The money raised will go a long way and all in the name of this fantastic football club.”

The creation of Forever Reds has been driven by the club’s desire to ensure former players always feel part of the LFC family – providing support, involving them in important work in the local community, and keeping them informed of new developments.

It also raises money to pay for the care and medical treatment of former players who may need support, such as legendary captain Ron Yeats, whose story can be read here.
