November 2015 – Manchester City 1-4 Liverpool (Premier League)
Klopp’s first meeting with City as Liverpool manager was one of the standout performances and results of his opening season at the helm.
A little over a month after he took the reins, the Reds were in an irresistible mood at Etihad Stadium and raced into a three-goal advantage.
An Eliaquim Mangala own goal was followed by efforts from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino inside a stunning 32 minutes.
Sergio Aguero partly mitigated the damage for the hosts just before half-time, but a thunderous Martin Skrtel strike late on sealed a memorable victory in Manchester.
January 2018 – Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City (Premier League)
A Premier League classic ensued when unbeaten City arrived at Anfield for this top-flight encounter.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s supreme run and shot at the Kop end put Liverpool in front, only for Leroy Sane to get the visitors back on terms.
Nine second-half minutes changed the complexion of the contest, however, as the Reds powered into a 4-1 lead courtesy of a goal apiece for devastating front three Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan then struck for Pep Guardiola’s side to threaten a dramatic comeback, but Klopp’s men remained ahead come the final whistle of a thriller.
April 2018 – Liverpool 3-0 Manchester City (Champions League)
Three months later, the Reds produced another Anfield surge to take a huge step towards the Champions League semi-finals.
Again, Salah, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mane delivered goals – this time all in the first half – as Klopp’s men hauled themselves three goals clear in this first leg.
Resilience at the back denied City an away goal and teed Liverpool up to complete a commanding aggregate win with a 2-1 result in the Manchester second leg.
November 2019 – Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City (Premier League)
Just a point had separated the Reds and City in the preceding season’s title tussle, and so the magnitude of this meeting at a relatively early stage of 2019-20 was clear.
Eight days after turning what appeared to be a frustrating defeat into a stunning comeback at Villa Park, Klopp’s charges doubled down on their relentless march towards the championship.
Fabinho’s sixth-minute wallop from distance was the catalyst and swiftly led to Salah heading in at the end of a flowing team move, before Mane made it three early in the second half.
Silva later netted for City but the points were Liverpool’s – and ultimately, the crown would be too.
April 2022 – Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool (Emirates FA Cup)
Anfield South was swaying to the sound of jubilant Kopites on this satisfying spring afternoon at Wembley.
In an accompanying act to another head-to-head battle for the Premier League title, the sides also faced off in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Ibrahima Konate’s towering header gave the Reds an advantage that they built on courtesy of a Mane double before half-time.
Jack Grealish and, in stoppage time, Silva found the net for City, though it was success for Liverpool and a step closer to what would become glory in the competition that season.
