Trent Alexander-Arnold explained the gratitude Liverpool's players feel for the prospect of four-and-a-half more years to work with Jürgen Klopp.

It was announced on Friday that Klopp has agreed an extension to his Reds contract until 2024, along with assistant managers Peter Krawietz and Pepijn Lijnders.

Alexander-Arnold has flourished under the German’s management and he is delighted that the European Cup-winning boss will continue his work at Anfield.

“He has showed he is a world-class manager, if not the best in the world,” the full-back told Liverpoolfc.com. “He has done special things for the club and obviously the fans all love him.

“He fits perfectly. He has brought players in, he has moulded players into world-class players.

“We’re grateful to have a manager like him and obviously the more years he can spend here, the better it is for the club. So it’s really good for us to get a few more years out of him.”

Alexander-Arnold was speaking after Saturday’s hard-fought 2-0 victory against Watford, which increased Liverpool’s lead of the Premier League to 10 points.

Mohamed Salah’s double eventually defeated the impressive Hornets at Anfield as the Reds showed their resilience during a tricky encounter.

“Obviously we made it harder than we wanted to,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“It was a tight game, obviously they wanted to impress their new gaffer so they were always going to come and fight for every ball.

“It was a difficult game, we knew it was going to be, but three points at the end of the day – it didn’t matter what scoreline it was going to be, we just wanted the three points.”

Klopp’s side now turn their attention to the FIFA Club World Cup, with a 20-man travelling squad having set off for Qatar on Sunday morning.

Liverpool will face Mexican outfit Monterrey on Wednesday evening and aim to progress to a final against either Flamengo or Al Hilal three days later.

“We want to win, that’s the main thing,” said Alexander-Arnold of a trophy the club has yet to lift.

“We’ll go out there and look to keep our momentum and look to win another trophy, which is what we want to do. We want to be classed as a world-class team.

“We’ll be going out there to win, that’s the main thing for us. Hopefully we go out there, get two wins and come back with the trophy.”
