Trent: We're heading to Kiev with momentum
Liverpool will head into the Champions League final with impetus after rounding off their domestic commitments with an impressive 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, Trent Alexander-Arnold asserted.
Alexander-Arnold and his teammates confirmed their spot in European football’s premier club tournament next season with a comprehensive victory 13 days before they meet Real Madrid in the 2017-18 edition’s showpiece match.
And the 19-year-old thinks the Reds can approach that game in Kiev with confidence and belief having guaranteed that they will once again compete in the Champions League in 2018-19.
“We had to get the win. That’s what we came out to do and that’s what we’ve done. A 4-0 win is not a bad send-off at Anfield and it gives us momentum going into Kiev now,” Alexander-Arnold told Liverpoolfc.com.
“We have worked hard for it all season. We’ve enjoyed the Champions League nights - this is where the club belongs. To secure the Champions League again is massive. We have done it again for next season and hopefully we’ll get as far as we have this season.”
Alexander-Arnold was presented with the young players’ Golden Samba - a prestigious fans’ award - as the Liverpool team completed a lap of appreciation around the Anfield pitch following the win over Brighton.
That gesture, understandably, meant a great deal to a young Scouser who is a lifelong supporter of the club.
“It’s massive to get it from the Kop and all the fans. I have to thank them for all the support they have given us this season. Hopefully it will be better, if they can, next season,” the teenager said.
“It’s a dream come true. Every time I put the shirt on, it’s an honour. I enjoy it no matter what. I try to go out there and play with a smile on my face, that’s what I was told to do when I was young. Every time I can play in front of the Kop especially is a dream.”
