3. Liverpool 0-0 Leicester - April 28, 1973
Bill Shankly's Liverpool required just a single point from their final-day clash with Leicester City to claim the third title of his reign and tens of thousands of expectant fans descended on Anfield, forcing the stadium to close its gates half an hour before kick-off.
A slog of a season had taken its toll on a "tired" and "weary" Liverpool, according to some of the press, but the Reds still forced England goalkeeper Peter Shilton into a series of impressive saves as the visitors held on for a 0-0 draw and the Reds got the point they required.
Watching from the stands amid the joyous title celebrations of the fans was German coach Hennes Weisweiler, whose Borussia Monchengladbach side would take on the Reds in the forthcoming UEFA Cup final.
Shankly's men won that game, too, (5-0 on aggregate) to bring the first ever European trophy back to Anfield.
