Explained: The story behind LFC's new name and number style
The new name and number style incorporated into Liverpool's 2018-19 home kit is inspired by Anfield and local street signs.
The Reds' New Balance strip for next season was unveiled on Thursday and can be pre-ordered online or in store now ahead of its Friday May 11 release.
Along with linear stripes on the front of the shirt - inspired by the architecture of the redeveloped Main Stand - and a tipped, two-button polo collar, the kit, which retains the popular deeper shade of red of the current design, also features a fresh name and number offering.
The style, which can be seen in the image above, references the typeface used on the main stadium signage at Anfield as well as that used on street signs throughout the city of Liverpool.
In addition, depth is added to the numbering by incorporating the bold drop shadow seen in the seating within the stadium itself.
