Danny Murphy retires from football
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has officially announced his retirement from football.
"There have been some press reports about whether I'm still playing or available but I decided a little while ago I would retire, I just didn't make it official," he said.
"So now I'm officially retiring because I'm sick of having conversations about it and almost stringing people along. I decided three or four weeks ago I was done.
"This is me, 20 years, I'm done. I've had a wonderful career and can look back on it with fondness."
The 36-year-old made 249 appearances for the Reds across seven years in the first team at Anfield, winning two League Cups, one FA Cup and a UEFA Cup.
Murphy is arguably best remembered among the club's supporters for his three separate winning goals against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Earlier this year, the Englishman was voted into 53rd place by fans in the 100 Players Who Shook the Kop countdown for 2013.
The versatile midfielder also represented Crewe Alexandra, Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers during his career, in addition to winning nine caps for England.
