LFC back Oliver King e-petition
The Oliver King Foundation, a charity set up following the death of Oliver King who died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) in March 2011, launched their Primary Schools Defibrillator Scheme recently.
The LFC Foundation has supported the Oliver King Foundation since it was founded almost two years ago. As part of the scheme, every primary school in Liverpool is to receive a defibrillator in memory of the schoolboy who died of a heart condition.
SADS is a disease which kills 12 young people across the country every week, but with a defibrillator in each school this number can be dramatically reduced.
The £102,640 project is believed to be the first scheme of its type in the country and will see the life saving devices fitted in 122 schools over the next academic year, with training also provided to staff.
Mark Haig, LFC Foundation, said: "This is an amazing achievement in such a short time. The Oliver King Foundation team have worked so hard, and we will continue to support them to help promote this scheme.
"It would be great to see this initiative adopted by other cities ensuring as many public buildings have this lifesaving equipment as possible."
An e-petition calling on Government to debate the dangers of SADS in the House of Commons has received thousands of signatures, but many more are needed. To help support the campaign, please sign up to http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/29399.
