Vote for your Fan of the Season
Liverpool Football Club and Standard Chartered are delighted to announce the launch of our first ever Fan of the Season poll - and we want YOU to help us find the winner.
All season long we have been searching for fans with a story to tell, and since the start of the campaign our esteemed judging panel led by Kop legend Ian Rush have been selecting monthly winners from a short-list of the hundreds of applications received from fans all over the world.
Our seven monthly winners are now competing for the Standard Chartered Fan of the Season crown, with two hospitality tickets to the final home game of the season against Chelsea, two nights in a hotel and the prized trophy, heading the way of the overall winner.
It's a prize well worth winning - and the decision is yours. And if that's not enough motivation for you, everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw to win a signed Liverpool FC shirt!
If you need a reminder about each of the finalists, here's a look back at our monthly winners, with a brief summary of why they came out on top:
September 2011: Dan Wakefield
Dan became the inaugural Liverpool FC Standard Chartered Fan of the Month in September 2011. The lifelong Red suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition which means the nerves to his muscles don't work properly, necessitating the use of an electric wheelchair. Nonetheless, Dan is a regular at Liverpool matches, home and away and even abroad. Times journalist Tony Barrett said: "Dan's commitment to Liverpool, and willingness to follow them wherever and whenever they play goes way beyond the norm. Anyone who regularly travels away with Liverpool will know Dan, and I cannot think of a more worthy recipient of the first Fan of the Month award."
October 2011: Steve Parry
Hong Kong-based Steve was October's Standard Chartered Fan of the Month. Originally from North Wales, the Kopite uses his love of Liverpool FC to promote the club in his adopted country. He had also raised thousands of pounds for local charities back on Merseyside, including Jamie Carragher's 23 Foundation. Gavin Laws, Group Head of Corporate Affairs at Standard Chartered, said: "Distance is no object to a man who lives the Liverpool passion every day, and his commitment to charitable work just makes him an obvious choice for Fan of the Month."
November 2011: Sid Ogwin
Sid won the vote of our four-man panel to be named as November's Standard Chartered Fan of the Month. Despite being completely blind since the age of 14, Sid has only been absent from one European or domestic final during that time. He was nominated for the award by Liverpool fan and playwright Nicky Allt. "Sid is my choice this month because he lives and breathes the atmosphere of the Club despite his disability," said Anfield legend Ian Rush.
December 2011: Ian Pankhurst
Georgia-based Liverpool fan Ian scooped the Standard Chartered Fan of the Month for December. Despite being based in Eastern Europe, Ian manages to travel to the UK to watch his beloved Liverpool. Gavin Laws from Standard Chartered chose Ian because of his total dedication to LFC while Tony Barrett commented that Ian's commitment was "above and beyond the call of duty".
January 2012: Paul Rice
Paul was posthumously awarded the Standard Chartered Fan of the Month away for January 2012. Paul, the inaugural Merseyside representative of the LFC Supporters' Committee, sadly passed away following a long battle with illness. However, such was his dedication and unswerving commitment to Liverpool Football Club and the city of Liverpool, his nomination for the award won the unanimous backing of the judging panel. Ian Ayre said: "I was fortunate to have known Paul personally and he was a true fan, and also an excellent businessman. Paul was a leading figure in the representations between the Club and the fans in our ownership issues some time back and I had huge respect for the way he conducted himself in my dealings with him."
February 2012: Steve McLaren
February's Standard Chartered Fan of the Month accolade went to Birmingham-based Red Steve McLaren. A long standing member of the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association, Steve has been a huge Kopite all of his life and has even written a book about the club's history since 1982. His passion won the overwhelming vote of the judging panel. Ian Rush said: "It's very encouraging to read of Steve's passion for LFC despite his disability. He deserves to be on the club's website, allowing other fans to see how amazing he is."
March 2012: Raymond Gandy
Raymond Gandy was rewarded for 80 years passionate support of LFC with the Standard Chartered Fan of the Month award for March. Nominated by one of his close friends, Raymond was described as 'a truly remarkable fellow', who is still proud to wear his Billy Liddell shirt and talk endlessly about his love of the club. Kop legend Ian Rush said: "It's great to hear that Raymond will not miss a single LFC game even at the age of 80. I hope he continues to tell his great Anfield stories of yesteryear!"
