NewsFirst 'Run to Anfield' event raises more than £73,000 for LFC Foundation
More than 1,200 people took part in what was a special morning at Anfield for the 5k fun run, which club legend John Barnes got under way in Paisley Square, before runners were then able to head in to the stadium after completing the run to get their photographs with their medals in front of the iconic Kop.
Among those taking part were LFC Women ambassador Natasha Dowie and former Reds goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, as well as a host of familiar faces that included Liverpool singer-songwriter Jamie Webster and Strictly Come Dancing star Neil Jones.
The event, which took place on Sunday September 8, saw people of all ages and abilities come together to help raise vital funds towards LFC Foundation’s health and wellbeing programmes, which encourage people of all ages to remain active and healthy via a variety of sessions across the Liverpool City Region.
Just some of those programmes include encouraging young people to remain active and healthy through the MOVE programme, and supporting local military veterans.
LFC Foundation has also built unique programmes such as Red Hot Beats and Sound Minds that combine the two famous pillars of Liverpool’s history – music and football – to teach coping strategies to children across the Liverpool City Region.
Matt Parish, LFC Foundation CEO, said: “We were delighted to host our first ‘Run to Anfield’ event and it was fantastic to see so many people of varying ages and abilities come together to help us raise funds for our health and wellbeing programme.
“Thank you to everyone who took part in the event and we hope to build up this success for the next ‘Run to Anfield’ in 2025.”
