NewsFactfile: Seven things to know about Cornelia Kapocs
The 24-year-old Swedish forward makes the move to Merseyside from Linkoping, as Matt Beard’s second recruit of the summer.
And here is what supporters need to know about the team’s new No.7...
She is a proven goalscorer. Kapocs netted 23 goals in 39 matches in the Damallsvenskan, Sweden’s top flight, across 2023 and 2024. In total, she found the target 38 times in all competitions during her four years with Linkoping, adding to her tally of 26 league and cup goals for previous clubs.
And a youth international. Kapocs is no stranger to playing at international level having represented Sweden at U17, U19 and U23 level. She also holds ambitions of a first official senior call, recently stating: “It’s a dream you’ve had since you were little. To play all the major championships and represent Sweden.”
She has made her first move outside Sweden. Kapocs has previously only played in her homeland. As a youngster, she started her career with Tolo IF, before rising through Swedish football with Kungsbacka DFF, Ljusdals IF, IK Uppsala and eventually Linkoping FC.
Liverpool’s Scandinavian connection grows. With Norwegian Sophie Roman Haug and Dane Sofie Lundgaard already at Liverpool, Kapocs adds to the Reds’ Scandinavian contingent. “They have helped me and it will be easier for me to talk to them about it if there’s something I need and things like that, so it’s nice,” Kapocs said.
She has Women’s Champions League experience. Kapocs featured for Linkoping in the qualifying rounds of last season’s premier European competition, featuring against Arsenal and Ukraine’s Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih. She cites helping her former club reach the tournament as the most satisfying achievement of her career so far.
Cornelia made her professional debut at 15. She was identified as a rising talent early on, while playing for her local side Tolo IF, with second-tier outfit Kungsbacka DFF handing her a professional debut at just 15 years of age. To add to the tale, she later netted at the same age and hasn’t looked back.
Marta and Messi are her idols. A veritable legend in the women’s game, Brazil forward Marta was Kapocs’ earliest idol in football. And the new Liverpool attacker also lists Argentina superstar Lionel Messi as a figure of inspiration.
