FeatureFactfile: Everything you need to know about Alejandra Bernabe
Get to know Alejandra Bernabe, Liverpool FC Women's newest recruit, with our handy factfile.
The full-back became the Reds' third addition of the January window – following Sam Kerr and Julia Bartel through the door – after completing a loan move from Chelsea on Friday.
Here's everything you need to know about the Spaniard…
She's an attack-minded defender. Matt Beard can expect Bernabe to fly down the left flank in addition to executing her defensive duties. Upon signing for Chelsea last summer, then-manager Emma Hayes said: "Alejandra has a fantastic left foot and it's very difficult to find players of her ability who can progress the ball up the pitch on the dribble."
She has been capped by Spain. Bernabe made her senior international bow in November 2022, coming on at half-time in a 7-0 friendly victory over Argentina. She has represented her country across various youth levels, notably winning the Women's U17 European Championship in 2018.
A rather experienced figure for her age. The 23-year-old has more than a century of appearances in her club career – most of which have been in the Spanish top flight. She also possesses Women's Champions League experience with Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. Bernabe has also represented Eibar and Madrid CFF.
She's getting to grips with English football. Bernabe's first taste of the Barclays Women's Super League arrived last month. She played the final quarter of an hour of Chelsea's draw with Leicester City. "This is the best thing that has happened to me this year because I have tried to work hard and now I got my opportunity," she said afterwards. More minutes followed in the Women's League Cup a week later.
What her coffee order is. If Bernabe's Liverpool teammates want to get to know her over a beverage, they can make her feel right at home by offering her favourite. Recently asked what her go-to hot drink is, she replied: "A latte. Sometimes I like with ice [but] a normal latte."
Her pre-match superstition. "I always have to fold my shirt. I've always done it since I was a child but I don't know why!"
