InterviewFabio Carvalho: I've got to step up when needed - I feel the trust of the manager

The summer arrival has made 10 appearances for the Reds so far this season and could be in line for further minutes in the weeks ahead due to the unfortunate injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

Carvalho played his part in Sunday's victory over Manchester City when he came off the bench in the 73rd minute, prior to Mohamed Salah's memorable winner.

The 20-year-old admitted to feeling privileged and reassured to have the trust of Jürgen Klopp in a fixture of such magnitude.

"That's something I felt because it was 0-0 and the manager obviously felt good and trusted in me to put me on," Carvalho told Liverpoolfc.com.

"Not just for the team but for myself, it's something to build on and we'll keep going.

"I've got to step up when needed – whether I start or come on. Regardless of what I do, I just need to be able to come on and produce. We'll see what happens."

The occasion at Anfield at the weekend was one of many reasons why Carvalho wanted to complete a switch to the club.

However, the fixture schedule offers little time to savour the win, with Liverpool in action on Wednesday evening when West Ham United visit L4.

The No.28 continued: "You want to come to Liverpool to play with the best and play on the biggest stage, which is what the game was the other day. But we'll just keep building our momentum and keep going.

"We enjoyed the win because we deserved it, so we kind of celebrated – as we should, every win's important, especially this year in the Premier League.

"But we have to focus on West Ham because they're a tough team to play against, so we're just focused on that now."

Klopp's men are looking to make it three wins from three in all competitions following confidence-boosting victories over the reigning Premier League champions and Rangers before that.

West Ham travel to Merseyside also encouraged by recent results both domestically and in Europe, having endured somewhat of a testing start to the campaign.

"We played against Rangers really well and we took that momentum on to City," Carvalho finished. "We just keep building and building and we'll get our confidence back.

"They're a physical team, direct – but they also play football if you let them. We've done all the homework, so hopefully we'll be able to put on a good show."
