InterviewFabinho: What a game! We have to show the same attitude v West Ham

The Reds defeated the reigning Premier League champions 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday, courtesy of Mohamed Salah's 76th-minute finish from a brilliant ball over the top by Alisson Becker.

Fabinho and his teammates now can't wait to return to action on Wednesday evening when West Ham United visit L4 – but know they will need a similar type of approach to keep their winning momentum going.

It was a brilliant performance and a memorable winning goal...

What a game! Always good games between these two teams. Maybe in the last years the two best teams in the league, and we showed why we are always fighting to be at the top of the league. Good quality on both sides, good opportunities. At the end, it was really important for us to win this game.

You knew everybody involved in the game was going to have to be at their very best. Every single one of you were...

Of course. Even being at our best, they had chances to score. They played a very good game as well but we knew if we keep fighting, if we keep playing our football with the fans behind us, we could win this game. We had good opportunities to score and in the end, after a nice assist from Ali, Mo scored a nice goal. Then we had to suffer together, we had to defend and we did this perfectly.

The famous goal against Manchester United in 2019-20 was very similar to the goal here – it was just everything that's brilliant about Liverpool...

This is not a normal goal [but], of course, not the first time we scored like this from Ali to Mo. We scored a couple of times like this already. But sometimes in a game like this, we need a goal that is not so normal to score and that's what happened. Yes, I'm happy for us and for Mo to score again.

What about the noise inside the ground? Do you feel this is the start of your season now?

It's important to win games. In the Premier League, we knew we had to win if we want to fight for the positions at the top. So we had to win – it doesn't matter if it was Man City or another team, we had to win. The support from our fans was unbelievable. On the pitch we could hear them, they were really important for us. The team showed the right attitude, we were in the right mood to play and win this game.

And you can't wait to come back on Wednesday now to face West Ham...

Of course. Two wins in a row, we want the third, we play at home. So yes, we have to show the same attitude. This was an important win, of course, but we have to keep winning and keep playing good football.
