ReactionFabinho: Brentford win will be a boost to our confidence
The Reds overcame a stubborn display by the Bees at Anfield to claim a timely set of three points that ended a run of three matches without a win in the Premier League.
Fabinho set Jürgen Klopp’s side on their way a minute before half-time as he deftly flicked a header into the net from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s set-piece.
Breakthrough secured, Liverpool went on to put the game to bed in the second period courtesy of further goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and substitute Takumi Minamino.
And Fabinho hopes the team can harness the positivity as they travel to Arsenal for a Carabao Cup semi-final decider and then Crystal Palace in the league.
“In general, really good,” the No.3, who made it three goals in a week, said of the display during a post-match interview with Premier League Productions.
“We needed these three points, we needed a good performance as well. It was nice to win in front of our fans. For the next games we have before the internationals it will be good to grow our confidence.”
Fabinho’s 44th-minute opener unlocked the contest for his side near the end of a half in which Brentford had steadily gained a foothold.
In addition to his personal satisfaction with finding the target once more, the Brazilian felt the strike came at an ideal moment for Liverpool to press on towards victory.
“It’s always nice to score and score here at Anfield. So, yes, when I can help the team in the offensive part of the pitch it’s always important for me as well,” he said.
“It’s always important to score first and to score in the first half. So, my goal just before the end of the first half was really important for us to keep going, keep pressing them and keep trying to score the second goal.
“That’s what happened, we scored the second goal and after that we played with much more confidence. We scored the third goal and yes, three points.”
