ClubExpedia’s free coach travel strengthens the LFC Women community
The initiative, which began in 2022, has enabled hundreds of fans to travel more than 6,400 miles to follow their team, fostering a robust community of travelling Reds at games.
There was plenty to cheer about on the road during the 2023-24 season, particularly with memorable wins against Arsenal and Manchester United. The campaign ended on a high note, with the team securing a fourth-place finish and Matt Beard receiving the WSL Manager of the Season award.
Aligning to the club’s The Red Way strategy, Expedia’s fan coach has contributed to two of the three key areas in the sustainability programme – the planet and community.
By emitting 84 per cent less CO2 per passenger per mile compared to two people sharing a car for the same journey, reducing over 46,000kg of CO2 emissions, this sustainable travel option positively impacts the environment and actively contributes to the club’s overarching aims to continually reduce its emissions.
Moreover, the free coach travel removes barriers for fans, creating opportunities for them to follow the women’s team home and away and enhancing the atmosphere for the players.
The partnership campaign was recognised by industry peers and made the shortlist for Best Fan Engagement at the Women’s Football Awards 2024.
LFC recently published the 2022-23 The Red Way season report, which celebrates the club’s sustainability achievements across three key areas and highlights its journey to promoting positive behavioural change while reducing environmental impact. You can read the full report here.
