Reaction'Everybody in the dressing room was really happy for Nunez'
The Reds' new No.27 opened his account for the club in spectacular fashion on Thursday, having come off the bench for the second half of the Red Bull Arena pre-season contest.
Nunez's flurry of finishes added to a Mohamed Salah eighth-minute opener as Jürgen Klopp's side recorded a convincing win in their third fixture of the summer.
"I think everybody is really happy for him and was looking for him [in the dressing room]," Matip said of Nunez when speaking to Liverpoolfc.com post-match.
"Great finish, great speed and the body he always puts in – I think it will be really difficult for our opponents.
"We had quite a good time there on the pitch but it was a preparation game and we try to be in the best shape we can. For this we have to train and a few days to prepare the league."
Liverpool now head to Austria for a training camp as their preparation for the 2022-23 season continues.
Matip is aware of the importance of the work that will be done in the week-long stay in Salzburg, with the start of the campaign only just around the corner.
The centre-half continued: "This hard work is part of the business and it's the only way how we can play our football.
"We need to be in the best shape because we play with a lot of intensity and for this we need to train quite hard."
