ReactionDiogo Jota: I told Joe Gomez he would get an assist!
Liverpool’s No.12 supplied a pinpoint cross from which Jota opened the scoring with a fine header in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Watford, which was sealed by Fabinho’s late penalty.
And, when asked by Liverpoolfc.com if his movement was the key to the goal, the Portugal forward revealed: “And the cross! Yeah, I think so, it’s just [get] a touch on the ball because the cross was really good.
“I spoke with Joey before the game, I said: ‘You are going to get an assist today!’ I remember against Nottingham he had a few crosses that I couldn’t get on the end of, but I was confident for today and fortunately for us it happened.”
Jota’s 20th goal of the season set the Reds on their way to a 10th consecutive Premier League victory that keeps them firmly in contention for the title ahead of next Sunday’s crucial clash with Manchester City.
“It’s the first time in my career that I reach 20, so just keep on going because we still have plenty to play for,” the No.20 said.
“I remember thinking before the game that what I like most [about] the 12.30 kick-off is that at three o’clock we have three points and the rest of the day to enjoy!
“It’s not easy: people coming from all over the world this week, early kick-off. We knew they were fighting for survival, they still are, and we knew they were going to give us a tough game so we did our job. That was the most important [thing] today.”
Next up for Liverpool is a Champions League quarter-final first leg against Benfica in Jota’s homeland.
He continued: “I was in Portugal [during the international break], I came here to play this game, I am back [there] again!
“I know how hard it is [against] Benfica, in their stadium it is not going to be easy but I am confident that we can go there and win the game.”
