ReactionDiogo Jota: I love to score but we wanted all three points
Diogo Jota was pleased to make an immediate impact but frustrated Liverpool could not go on to win as they drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest.
The Reds were behind for almost an hour of Tuesday night’s Premier League meeting at the City Ground, where Chris Wood netted for the hosts in the eighth minute.
Jota was introduced from the bench on 65 and within 30 seconds had headed in an equaliser from fellow substitute Kostas Tsimikas’ corner kick.
Liverpool subsequently came close to grabbing all three points but found Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels in outstanding form and had to settle for the draw.
Post-match, Jota gave his instant reaction to TNT Sports. Read what the No.20 said below…
On adding to his excellent personal scoring record against Forest…
I think it’s just a coincidence. Obviously I love to score goals. I scored with my first touch today and obviously that gave the team a bit of momentum. I had two more chances, I think I could have given us the three points. Unfortunately, I couldn’t, and [it was] game on.
On what he and Tsimikas said as they were coming on from the bench…
I actually said to him, we were watching the cup goal from two or three years ago where he passed it to me, and we were on the touchline there and I was just saying, ‘Let’s do it now, recreate your assist, take the corner.’ It was a goal, it was one of those occasions where everything went right. But like I said, I’m not happy because I think we could have won.
On the saves of Forest goalkeeper Sels..
I was telling that to my previous coaches there at Wolves – I think he made two great saves. Obviously you want to do better [in front of goal] but I think he was good as well.
On the position Liverpool have at the top of the table…
It’s a long way [still to go], in the Premier League every ground you go, even at home, it’s always hard. It’s one more point but obviously we wanted the three.
