ReactionCurtis Jones on Newcastle draw: 'We'll take the point and move on'

The Reds played out a thrilling contest at St. James' Park on Wednesday evening as the two sides eventually shared the hard-fought spoils.

Alexander Isak put the hosts ahead in the opening half before Jones himself netted to level up proceedings five minutes after the half-time break.

Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle a lead again shortly after the hour mark, though Mohamed Salah's brace then put the Reds on top.

However, Fabian Schar was to have the final say on the night, levelling in the final minute of normal time to see the game end in a draw.

Reflecting post-match, Jones told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's simple. I think the first half was poor and the second half was good. We got our goals, we had all the ball and dominated. It's simple. We'll take our point and move on."

He added: "I think a team like us and how we've played and with the teams we've beat, we have to win these games. It's a hard place to come and play. They're a good team and they've got great fans – it helps them as well.

"The first half was tough. We were terrible and then we upped it in the second half. I scored and it changed the whole of the game and we were back [in it]. I'm gutted we couldn't take the three points, but we'll take a point. That's fine."

Following a difficult opening half, Liverpool worked themselves in front thanks to a strong display of attacking football in the second period.

Asked about the difference between the two halves, Jones said: "It's the energy I think. That's what's been great. We've dominated games and had all the ball and scored great, great goals. But if you look at the stats and how much we've run and pressed, that's been the main thing.

"I think in the first half we were sloppy. We were slow, lost a load of duels and we picked up soft [yellow] cards. That just shows you're a little bit slow in your tackles. It's one of them days. In the second half we showed us. We've got a great team and a great camp. We never quit."

Jones made his 150th appearance for Liverpool on the night, with the Kirkby Academy graduate marking the occasion with that goal in the 50th minute.

"It means everything," Jones said of the milestone. "It's as simple as that. I'm a kid who came through the Academy. I'm a Scouser myself, I've supported the club for the whole of my life, so I hope there's more and more games."
