LFC Foundation's Youth Panel kicks off #iwill week
Youngsters from LFC Foundation's Youth Panel kick-started #iwill week with a social action project in Liverpool on Sunday.
The Youth Panel worked alongside the Whitechapel Centre, a homeless and housing charity based in the Liverpool region, to run a day of activities in a bid to help tackle poverty and homelessness in Liverpool City Centre.
LFC Foundation’s youngsters shopped for essential items such as warm clothing, hats, scarfs gloves and rain covers, which were then donated to a vulnerable group of 30 young people living in sheltered accommodation.
The two groups then took part in a social gathering and workshop to get to know each other better.
The young people were also invited to Anfield for Liverpool FC Women's match against Everton later that day, which they attended alongside the Youth Panel members.
Paul Wright, #iwill co-ordinator at LFC Foundation said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in the #iwill campaign and yesterday’s activities were a brilliant way to kick-start a jam-packed week of social action.
“LFC Foundation will be taking part in numerous events and activities across the Liverpool City Region, focusing on knife crime, bullying, racism, mental health awareness, environmental matters, poverty and many other social issues.”
“Today’s poverty and homelessness session has not only highlighted something which is a real issue across our city but has also provided friendship and assistance to people in need.
“We’re very much looking forward to highlighting more important topics as the week goes on.”
A representative from the Whitechapel Centre said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with LFC Foundation on the #iwill campaign. It’s a wonderful way to make a real impact in the local community as well as highlight issues.
"We would like to thank all the children and schools we are working with for their hard work, dedication and creativity to make a difference and support The Whitechapel Centre to end homelessness in Liverpool.”
LFC Foundation’s #iwill social action programme forms part of the national #iwill campaign, which was launched in 2013 by HRH the Prince of Wales.
Their #iwill programme will work with 21 local schools (12 primary and nine secondary) and youth and community groups to inspire children and young people to make positive contributions to their local communities, the environment and society as a whole.
With a total project fund of £1.25 million, which is funded 50 per cent by the LFC Foundation and 50 per cent match funded by #iwill, the investment will deliver a three-year project engaging more than 5,800 individual children and young people aged 10 to 14.
