Being Red: Finding a career path for the future
An Anfield teenager has transformed her future potential thanks to LFC Foundation's Leadership through Sport and Business (LTSB) programme.
Eighteen-year-old, Mia, strived for a career in accounting and joined the course as part of the 2017-18 cohort. She attended weekly sessions in the LFC Foundation learning space at Anfield and having shown a willingness to learn and achieve her goals, Mia developed both her skills and self-confidence.
With the help of LFC Foundation, Mia had the opportunity to undertake six months of pre-apprenticeship training before securing an apprenticeship with an industry-leading employer.
She said: “I chose the Leadership through Sports and Business programme because it allowed me to get the qualifications I needed for my chosen career.
“It's also really helped me to develop as a person and I've found out a lot about myself that I didn’t already know. Before I was on this course, I wouldn’t have been able to stand up and talk in front of a group of people, but I can now.”
Having now completed the programme, Mia has an internationally recognised qualification from the Association of Accounting Technicians, which will help to develop her career in the future.
LFC Foundation project lead, Gemma Smith, said: “Mia has been on a massive journey. When she joined us, she was quite shy and now it’s clear to see there’s been a huge change.
“She hasn’t just become a better version of herself - she’s become the best version of herself”.
LTSB, together with the LFC Foundation, other Premier League Community initiatives and education delivery partners, provides young people with personal and professional development to prepare them for the world of work.
