The Dutch forward scored a double at Anfield against the Reds' fierce rivals, opening the scoring late on in the first half before making it 3-0 shortly after the interval.
Attacking partners Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah also bagged braces, with the latter becoming the club's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer in the process.
After the game, Gakpo spoke to Sky Sports to offer his reaction on a memorable day's work – read on for the interview...
On the win...
Everybody told me a lot about this game before, so I knew it's a big game for the club, for the fans and also for ourselves in the situation we are in. We were extra-motivated and when we put [in] a performance like this, that's amazing.
On the Reds' second-half performance...
I think we were just determined, eager to keep going, keep pressing them, keep scoring the goals if we got the chances. In the end, we got enough chances and everybody got the luck on their side today, so that's amazing and we could score seven. But also there are things to improve and we just have to keep going for the next games and keep winning the games.
On Andy Robertson's assist for his first goal...
It was amazing. I was on the side, even he told me, 'Go in behind.' Then I made the run, he gave a brilliant pass, I just had to take a touch inside. We practised this kind of thing a lot in training, so it's nice that you score something like that.
On his role in the forward line...
Obviously it's a new front three, except for Mo, so in the beginning it's always a little bit difficult to find each other because the [previous] three – Sadio, Bobby and Mo – were really used to playing with each other. Then it's a new formation, you have time to adapt and I think we are getting there. We just have to keep improving, keep going, keep working hard and then it will be alright.
On which of his goals is his favourite...
I think the most beautiful one was the second one. The most important was the first one.
