MatchCarabao Cup: 13 stats to know ahead of Brighton v Liverpool
The Reds won both of the previous two League Cup meetings between the clubs: 4-0 at Anfield in October 1985 and 2-1 at the Amex Stadium in September 2011.
This will be Liverpool’s 10th visit to the AMEX. In the previous nine they have recorded five victories, but not in any of the last three.
The Reds are aiming to reach the quarter-finals of this competition for the 26th time.
Mohamed Salah is two short of totalling 100 goals for Liverpool away from Anfield. He would become only the third player to achieve the feat, after Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
Alexis Mac Allister played 112 times for Brighton in all competitions, scoring 20 goals, from 2019 to 2023.
Andy Robertson’s first goal for the Reds came against the Seagulls in a 4-0 Anfield league victory in May 2018.
Caoimhin Kelleher and Joe Gomez have the most League Cup appearances in the current Liverpool squad, with 16 each.
Arne Slot’s side are undefeated in all seven away fixtures this season (six wins, one draw) and in the last nine dating back to April.
Three Reds players have featured in all 13 matches so far this season – Cody Gakpo (including five starts), Mac Allister (11 starts) and Salah (12 starts).
Brighton have progressed to round four courtesy of home wins against Crawley Town (4-0) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (3-2).
The Seagulls’ James Milner played 332 games and scored 26 goals across an eight-year spell with Liverpool from 2015 to 2023.
The hosts are unbeaten at the Amex to date this season – winning four and drawing three.
The two teams have met twice before on October 30, both in the top flight. In 1982 Liverpool recorded a 3-1 home victory and in 2021 the sides drew 2-2 at Anfield.
