NewsCaoimhin Kelleher: We're going in the right direction and want to continue

Kelleher helped the Reds to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday in the Premier League, stepping in for the injured Alisson Becker.

A penalty from Mohamed Salah and then a decisive strike from Curtis Jones secured the spoils for Slot's charges, with focus quickly turning to RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday amid a busy run.

Having lost just once in 2024-25 across all competitions, Liverpool sit top of the Premier League and will head into the game against Bundesliga opposition looking for a third consecutive European win.

But Kelleher and his teammates will certainly not be getting carried away by their form thus far.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I think that's more the outside noise of what's going to happen. I think the manager is right, it's probably early days for us, it's not too many games into the league and there's some tough games for us to come as well.

"It's obviously going in the right direction and hopefully we can continue. It's a tough run of games for us now, but hopefully we can keep everyone fit and get some good results."

On how satisfying a win it was against Chelsea due to the calibre of opposition…

It was a big game for us. I thought the crowd were brilliant and the atmosphere was electric. We are back to the top of the table as well, which is important, and it's a big win for us.

On how intense those games are to play in, especially with not having to make many saves…

Obviously for me it's just about being mentally really focused and trying to help the defenders in front of me as well, help them be in the right positions. I must say I thought we defended really well as a whole team and limited them to very few chances and I didn't have too much to do. So that was really pleasing defensively.

On having to always be fully focused as a goalkeeper…

It's the most important thing probably for goalkeeping that you need to always be mentally switched on, and especially for a team like Liverpool as well when you are probably not going to have too much work to do but maybe there is that one chance that you need to be there.

On getting the win over the line and fighting for each other right until the end…

The manager has been big on that. We can play nice football and obviously that's important. But when you come into these games against Chelsea where the quality is so high and it's going to be a tight game, you need to dig in and you need to make blocks, you need to challenge, you need to defend well. Because, at the end of the day, the defending wins the games, which you saw. That was pleasing to see.
