ReactionCaoimhin Kelleher on Reds' response, Bournemouth win and clean sheet
Seven days on from Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 win in L4, the Reds produced a dominant performance to overcome Andoni Iraola’s side, with Luis Diaz’s quickfire double being added to by Darwin Nunez before half-time.
Arne Slot’s team’s three goals were scored in a devastating 11-minute burst and Saturday’s victory backed up a midweek Champions League success against AC Milan at San Siro.
Kelleher, who started in place of the injured Alisson Becker versus the Cherries, marked his first appearance of the campaign with a clean sheet and told Liverpoolfc.com: “Delighted to get the win, I thought we played really well. It was a great performance.
“I think we were obviously very disappointed with what happened last weekend but all we can do is bounce back as a team and I think we have done that in the last two games.
“So, we just need to keep this momentum now and keep the confidence. We all love working under the new manager and things are really coming together now so hopefully we can keep the results going, and the performances.”
Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo saw an early goal disallowed for offside following a VAR review and Kelleher said: “To be fair, I think after that we started quite well, it maybe woke us up as such.
“I think after that we did quite well and we scored the first goal and then got the second in quick succession… obviously a good team performance in the end.
“It’s not easy for the opposition team [when] the pace of that front three is running at you. I think after the first goal we really clicked into gear and the second one obviously came quite quickly. So, a really good performance from all the lads.”
Kelleher made several impressive saves during the 90 minutes and, assessing his own display, stated: “The chances are few and far between sometimes so obviously I need to come in and do well. I’m happy to make some saves and the most important thing is the clean sheet, so I’m happy with that.”
