NewsCaoimhin Kelleher previews Ipswich opener: 'We have full confidence and momentum'

The Reds finished up their preparations on Sunday with an Anfield double-header against La Liga opposition, defeating Sevilla 4-1 in an afternoon kick-off before a 0-0 draw with Las Palmas later on.

Slot's side had previously won all three fixtures on their tour of the USA as they saw off Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Kelleher, who featured in the behind-closed-doors game against Las Palmas, highlighted Liverpool's positive performances and results ahead of Saturday's Premier League opener at Ipswich Town.

"I think the most important thing is getting minutes and coming out with no injuries, which we've done," Kelleher told Liverpoolfc.com.

"The manager has alluded to it as well that we need to get wins, so I think we've had a good run of results against good opposition. It builds momentum for us to go into the first game of the new season full of momentum and full of confidence."

On working under Slot and the new regime, Kelleher added: "It's been really good. Obviously he has a really clear way of playing and his messages are really clear. He holds us to a high standard, which we need to be held to.

"There are obviously very good players here, so he pushes us to our limits and wants us to do well. It's been really positive. It's been a lot of information to take onboard and we're just trying to work on it each game. I think it's getting better and better."

Slot's first top-flight fixture in charge of Liverpool comes against newly promoted opposition at Portman Road in a lunchtime kick-off.

"I think it's come around quickly as it always does," Kelleher said. "We've had a good pre-season. We were full of confidence coming back from the US with the results there and then seeing the other players return who went a long way in their international tournaments, having them back has been a confidence boost as well.

"So, kind of having the whole squad back this last week, we've worked hard on stuff and we're full of confidence and ready to go."

The goalkeeper continued: "We were very close last season. I think in the Premier League it's obviously the finest of margins, so I think we're just trying to work on those and maybe a few goals here and there and some results we need to work on.

"But the manager is holding us to high standards that we have to perform every game and get those results because the margins are so small. We've seen with Arsenal and [Manchester] City, they barely drop any points. So if we want to be up there, we need to be of the same standard every game as well."
