MatchBurnley v Liverpool team news
The former returned to training on Friday afternoon, following his Africa Cup of Nations triumph with Senegal, and is in contention to feature at Turf Moor.
“Sadio will come [in] this morning for training and I assume he will be in full training and then we make a decision after that on how he feels and all that stuff,” Jürgen Klopp told the media on Friday.
“He will probably still be emotionally high-flying, but physically we have to see how intense the last few days were for him.”
Henderson will be available to Klopp, too, having sat out the midweek defeat of Leicester City due to a minor back issue.
Joe Gomez and Divock Origi are also able to stake their claim for selection against the Clarets, with the pair not involved versus Leicester due to the current high number of players the manager can call upon.
“Hendo, yes, definitely will be back,” said Klopp. “That’s the plan, was the plan before the game and is still the plan now. If nothing happens, he will play on Sunday.
“The other two were not injured. What I said, it didn’t happen a lot that we have these quality players and then they couldn’t make the squad.
“For Joe, it was the situation that we have to make the decision – do we want to have a second centre-half on the bench or not? Div is not too long back in training after his injury, so that was the decision there. But both will train fully.”
Andy Robertson will the reach the landmark of 150 league appearances for the club if he features this weekend, while Joel Matip can achieve the same total in all competitions.
For the hosts, Sean Dyche is confident Maxwel Cornet will be fit to face Liverpool after he was forced off during the second half of Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
“Maxwel will be fine, he took a whack on his leg but he will be fine, I am sure of that,” said the Burnley boss, who also hopes the returning Ashley Barnes can figure.
The Clarets will definitely continue to be without Johann Gudmundsson and Matej Vydra, however, and Charlie Taylor is also a significant doubt for the game.
“Vyds and Johann are making good progress but they will be a few weeks,” added Dyche during his media preview. “Charlie Taylor, we are having to be careful with him, he is beginning to make progress but I doubt he will be ready for this one.”
