FeatureAnfield Road end goals: A Champions League special from Luis Garcia
It’s likely those words conjure up certain memories at first; memories of the Kop end and Chelsea and ‘did it or didn’t it…?’
But while that may have been Garcia’s most memorable strike on Liverpool’s improbable voyage to Istanbul, it wasn’t his best.
That honour goes to the dipping, swerving thing of beauty the little Spaniard produced a few weeks earlier: a goal of stunning quality that ultimately vanquished Juventus in the quarter-finals.

Against a team managed by Fabio Capello and featuring luminaries such as Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro and Alessandro Del Piero, the Reds took an early lead when Sami Hyypia volleyed home Garcia’s glancing flick-on of Steven Gerrard’s corner.
And soon after, a raucous Anfield atmosphere was taken up another notch courtesy of a moment of magic from Garcia.
He watched Anthony Le Tallec’s knockdown, he steadied himself, and he connected sweetly with the outside of that left foot.
From all of 25 yards, the ball angled away from Buffon and arced perfectly over his despairing grasp.
Into the top corner of the Anfield Road end net it went, and into delirious disbelief went the crowd.
