Programme notes'Anfield is intoxicating – it makes you feel like anything is possible'
The Reds host the Hammers in Premier League action just three days on from Sunday’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
Writing in his column in the matchday programme, the boss heaped praise on supporters for their role in the win against Pep Guardiola’s outfit and discussed their importance and impact.
Klopp said: “It is only three days since we were last at Anfield and while everyone knows my feelings about fixture congestion, especially in this season which is pretty unique I would say, I think I would have to question my own state of mind if I was not excited about another game at this stadium so soon after the last one.
“Wow! When Anfield is like it was on Sunday it is the most incredible place. If it didn’t exist, someone would have to invent it because that kind of passion is what football was made for.
“I think the English word for it is intoxicating. It literally makes you feel like anything is possible and that through sheer power of will, enthusiasm and emotion you can affect things for the better.
“There will be people out there with much more intelligence than I have who can explain it better but all I know is it helps our team. In difficult situations it makes us feel we can find a way out. In bad times it gives us hope. In good times it can make the difference.
“I know others in football will feel their own stadium is special and I respect that one hundred per cent. I would not argue with them or tell them that they should think the same way that I do, but I know our stadium and our fans better than I know the others, so I see the positive impact that they make, and I truly believe it is special.
“We had a period at Anfield where we did not have supporters and everything about it felt wrong, so having been through a time like that I think it makes sense that between us we carry on doing whatever we can to make it as incredible as it can be.”
