ReactionAndy Robertson: We had to dig deep - but it's a big result for us

The Reds were made to work extremely hard to ensure they restored a seven-point lead of the division at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot’s men had moved into a two-goal lead before half-time as Luis Diaz’s opener was followed by a Mohamed Salah penalty in front of the Kop.

Wolves mounted significant pressure after the break, though, and reduced their deficit through Matheus Cunha – but Liverpool emerged through a nervy finale with a crucial victory.

Robertson said of avoiding more late dropped points – having conceded a stoppage-time equaliser at Everton in midweek – speaking to Sky Sports post-match: “Yeah, we just managed to dig deep.

“Obviously 2-0 at half-time, we know that can be one of the most dangerous results in football. We had to come out and we had to start well – and we didn’t quite do that.

“I think the second half was a slog, maybe playing on Wednesday has taken it out of a few of the lads or whatever. But it was all about trying to use the experience we have got on the pitch, trying to use everything that we’ve got. And I thought we dug deep.

“When they scored, everyone gets nervous. The players get nervous, the crowd get nervous – of course that’s only natural. But it’s a massive win for us and another game down.”

Asked if fatigue was a factor in Liverpool not being able to create goalscoring chances during a difficult second half, the No.26 said: “It’s maybe part of it but I thought Wolves were excellent [in the] second half.

“They obviously made a couple of changes at half-time, they were 2-0 down and they have probably gone a little bit more attacking, put more forward players up in the areas. And that made it more difficult for us.

“But we have got to be better on the ball, of course we have and we know that. But I think this result is big.

“Obviously after Wednesday and getting put out of the FA Cup, it’s important to get back on a winning streak and hopefully this can be the start of one.”
