Reaction'Amazing!' - Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard relish LFC Legends' win v Chelsea

The striker's pair of goals on debut secured a 2-0 victory for Liverpool FC Legends in Saturday's LFC Foundation charity match versus Chelsea Legends.

Crouch was reintroduced to the L4 crowd at the start of the second half and opened the scoring by heading in at the Kop end in the 55th minute.

He then put the contest beyond the Blues 10 minutes later with a lovely looped finish over goalkeeper Rob Green.

Afterwards, the match-winner and LFC Legends captain Steven Gerrard spoke to Liverpoolfc.com – read on for the pair's reaction…

On a fairy-tale legends debut...

Crouch: I can say it's quite emotional really because I never thought I'd come back here in any capacity as a player. So to play in the game was, first and foremost, amazing and great for the Foundation. But to score a couple of goals in front of my family and friends was amazing.

On Crouch being invited back...

Gerrard: We were trying to get him the third! Everyone was running out of energy, getting tired, but he changed the game. I think we played well throughout the game but we just needed a little bit of magic, a bit of inspiration from the side. The big man came on and provided it.

On performing the robot celebration...

Crouch: So many kids on the way here were like, 'Can you do the robot?' I'd rather have not, to be honest, but it was for the kids.

On how special it was to be playing in front of his children...

Crouch: It really is. To play with the likes of Stevie again is fantastic. My little boy has never seen me kick a football and I think he thought I was lying about it! Great day and great for the Foundation.

On returning to Anfield again...

Gerrard: I think all eyes are on the run-in, we've got a massive game coming up against Everton. But during the international break when you get the invite to come and play in front of a full house, it's impossible to turn it down. As Peter said, the priority is always the Foundation, raising large sums of money to support the area, to support the ex-players in need. But it can't be done without the supporters. They're coming here, paying money and it's a full house, it's unbelievable. It wouldn't happen at any other club. Crouchy is the hero today but the main heroes are the supporters – always.

On his first goal...

Crouch: Your eyes light up when the ball is right and it was nice to see it fly in – Kop end as well. When I turned up this morning, I was just hoping to get through the day! I'm so happy.

On the second goal...

Crouch: I was trying to knock it back and then it dropped and I just tried to lift over [the goalkeeper]. It dropped down perfectly. I knew I was going to get one off Huthy [Robert Huth] because I played with Huthy and he doesn't mess about! I tried to head it back and then as soon as it came back I just tried to lift it.

On Liverpool supporters...

Crouch: I've been at various different clubs and Stevie said it himself, it doesn't happen anywhere else. There is something special about the fan base of Liverpool. For them to come out in an international break, it's amazing and it's all for an amazing cause as well.
