Programme notes'Absence makes the heart grow fonder - we can't wait to return to Anfield'
The Reds make a long-awaited return to their famous home stadium following the World Cup break when Leicester City visit in the Premier League this evening.
In his column in the matchday programme, Henderson explained how the feeling of gracing the L4 turf remains as special as ever in what is his 12th season at the club.
The captain writes: "One of the sayings I always heard growing up was 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' and that is certainly the case tonight as we return to Anfield for the first time in almost two months.
"You don't need a break from it to know what this place means to you, but it definitely adds to the excitement when you haven't played here for a while.
"As I get older, I realise more and more just how special every moment you get to play at this stadium is. It is a massive privilege and one that you could never ever get used to, or take for granted.
"The place itself is obviously one of the most incredible venues in sport and a lot of that is down to the people who come here, the atmosphere they create and the history that they are part of.
"I was lucky enough to play at the World Cup and that is an experience that I will always remember even though we did not get the outcome we were hoping for.
"While I was there my focus was on England but unlike with summer tournaments, I also knew that when this one came to an end it would not be too long before I was back playing at Anfield.
"If that's not a cause for excitement then I don't know what is."
